In this article we will discuss how plasma skin regeneration -- also known as plasma skin tightening or plasma skin rejuvenation -- helps repair wrinkles and 2 other skin problems we get as we age.
To understand WHY plasma regeneration is so powerful, we need to discuss why skin gets wrinkled and saggy as we age.
As we age, the collagen and elastin that support our skin start to disappear.
For example, according to Scientific American, 'after we hit 20, we start to lose about 1% of collagen per year in our skin'. (Scientific American, 2005)
Exposure to sunlight, pollution, cigarette smoke, and other toxins cause extra damage.
Think of collagen as the scaffolding that keeps your skin firm. While elastin is the protein that tightens your skin to keep it from sagging. 😬
Once collagen and elastin start to disappear, your skin is less firm. So, it starts to sag and wrinkle. 😭
But don't lose hope!
Fortunately, that is exactly what doctors have seen plasma skin regeneration can help do.
We've referenced this study before, but in a study of 8 plasma skin regeneration patients, doctors stated:
"[An evaluation] 3 months after treatment revealed a band of new collagen at the dermo-epidermal junction with less dense elastin in the upper dermis. The mean depth of new collagen was 72.3 μm."
Plasma regeneration also re-organizes the elastin in your skin.
The same 3 doctors state:
"In the pretreatment samples, the zone of collagen change showed a dense accumulation of elastin, but in the posttreatment samples, this zone contained less dense elastin with significant interdigitating
new collagen."
Both these doctor-reported changes can help reduce the appearance of older skin and make your skin look younger.
Wrinkles come in two types: static and dynamic. (American Academy of Facial Esthetics, Accessed December 2020)
As you get older, dynamic wrinkles usually appear first.
These are lines you don't see unless you move your face, for example, crow's feet around your eyes when you smile.
As we get even older, we start to get more static wrinkles.
Static wrinkles are there whether you're moving your face or not. They can be deep or superficial "fine lines".
Over time dynamic wrinkles can become static wrinkles because you reinforce these lines every time you move your face.
Some people get Botox to freeze the muscles underneath their wrinkles.
By reducing muscle movement, you no longer see dynamic lines when you move your face. But, unfortunately, Botox has little effect on static wrinkles. 😢
The clinical study states:
"Previous research has shown that the PSR device using ablative energy settings...can induce significant skin tightening and textural improvement similar to single-pass carbon dioxide laser resurfacing."
Tightening the skin reduces dynamic wrinkles. This also helps your skin go longer before your dynamic wrinkles turn into static wrinkles.
If you already have static wrinkles, our plasma treatment can help you look younger by turning deep wrinkles into fine lines.
The study mentioned earlier reported a 37% reduction in the depth of wrinkles.
One of the first places people see signs of loose skin is along the jawline. For example, when you look down, the skin drops a little.
As your skin loses elastin, gravity makes your skin stretch out and become looser.
Loose skin is not sexy.
Important: The most common cause of damage to collagen and elastin is exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun. Wearing sunscreen filters UV light so it doesn't damage your skin. This helps slow the appearance of loose skin and wrinkles. As many dermatologists point out, wearing sunscreen is the most important thing you can do to slow skin aging.
The plasma treatment creates small surface burns on your skin that heal fast with no scabbing or permanent scarring.
Immediately after the appointment, you'll notice that you have less loose skin. That's because the surface burns cause the skin to shrink.
As the skin heals, it will loosen a bit, but it will still be tighter than before the treatment.
That's why we use this treatment to help remove excess skin from the eyelid as a less-invasive alternative to an eyelid lift.
As we get older, spots of dark pigmentation and sunspots are another unwanted change. These areas often develop from long-term sun exposure.
Ultraviolet light activates cells that produce the skin pigment melanin and causes them to produce too much of this dark pigment.
In the same study, doctors found that plasma skin regeneration reduced brown spots in several of the patients.
Below are photos so that you can see for yourself:
As we get older, our skin becomes drier for three main reasons.
Unfortunately, plasma skin regeneration has not been shown to help with dry skin.
As your skin ages, it's easier to bruise. There are two main reasons.
Thus, as you get older, there is less protection against traumas that lead to bruising.
Unfortunately, plasma doesn't help to thicken your skin or restore those protective fats. It only helps reduce wrinkles, sagging, and fine lines.
Plasma skin regeneraion is a proven treatment that can help you get rid of wrinkles and reduce saggy skin caused by age!
PSR can't help you with dry skin or bruising caused by aging.
But if you want help to reduce crows feet, get rid of excess skin in the eyelids, or shrink frown & laugh lines, plasma skin tightening can help!
It won't make you look 19 again, 😂😂 but it can help you look up to 10 years younger.
